DECEMBER 2007 NEWSLETTER
SLIPSTREAM Newsletter of BDMAC 13/12/2007 Hello there and welcome to the post AGM issue of SLIPSTREAM. Firstly thank you to all the members who attended the AGM this week (11/12/06) and contributed to the running of YOUR club. Several things came out of this meeting and are reported here in the last issue for 2007. Before we go any further, our sincere thanks to Committee and instructors for their hard work during 2007. Your committee was re-elected for another term of office with no changes to roles within the club. No name was submitted for PRO so we will muddle through as best we can. David Ginger is welcomed within the Helicopter group. David has been assisting us all year and has now been co-opted on to the committee. Simon has agreed to try and rescue the club web site. Club subscriptions were increased in line with the BMFA increase of £1 for senior and £1 for junior members. The club component and one-off joining fee remain unchanged for the 2008 season. Please note that “Country Membership” is not to be used to delay paying the full fee. FEES TO BE PAID IN FULL REMEMBER THAT YOUR SUBS NEED TO BE RECEIVED BEFORE 31/12/2007 – AFTER THIS DATE YOUR INSURANCE COVER LAPSES AND YOU ARE UNABLE TO FLY – SO PLEASE FILL IN THE ENCLOSED MEMBERSHIP FORMS PROMPTLY AND RETURN TO KEN GRIFFITHS WITH PAYMENT. Ollie and Kathleen kindly donated a prize for the “Broken Prop” which this year was awarded to Ollie and Ricky for their mid air prang. This will be an annual prize. On the subject of annual prizes, the photo competition will be judged at our midsummer rally weekend so get clicking now. Our summer event was discussed and we will retain a 2 day event with camping etc. More on this as it unfolds. I hope that the membership show enthusiasm for this event being a success. Most of the committee are B Certificate holders and can both organise and fly– so it’s down to you the membership as well to make it a success! There is a lot to be done for any event so more hands will be needed – the initial process of booking sites, booking dates, insurance, advertising scope, prizes, format of event, safety must all be considered now and the action begins in January 2008. Proposed dates during June. Weston Park will be on the weekend of the 15th in 2008 (a week later than usual). On the subject of safety, we entrust this to Andy Jarvis, Michael Briggs and David Ginger– remember that they have the final say on interpretation of all aspects of the club rules and model flying codes. Their role is mainly strategic and all members must do their bit in the operational day to day matters that arise on the field. It is unfair to expect these guys to do it all and safety is the responsibility of every member so please do your bit to help. Contact the committee for more information on any issue – we are there to protect the clubs interests. New 2.4 GHZ radio sets are in greater use now and are acceptable to the committee for most modelling applications. The LMA have a set of guidance which appears to be about right for club use. It only remains for me to wish you all a very merry Christmas and an Aeronautical New Year full of lots of great pressies and fine flying. On my wish list is the huge turbine powered Cessna Citation owned by AL – what a magnificent example this is – if only ! From Chris, Terry, Tony, Michael, Ken G, Andy J, Andy F, David G and myself we wish you lots of festive fun and assure you of a warm welcome back into the club in 2008. Remember there will be extra flying at Christmas on the Bank holidays so enjoy (but please try not to annoy!) Ricky will be looking at organising some mini competitions in 2008. 8th January 2008 --------------Indoor Flying at Wigan – see Andy or Tony for information. 15th January 2008 -----------Overlander club talk at Feniscowles & Pleasington Sports & Social Club, Club House, Livesey Branch Rd, Feniscowles, Blackburn, Lancashire. BB2 5EG. (8.00 pm onwards). Finally Brian Turner is selling his model collection and kindly donating proceeds to charity – his information is enclosed with some nice pictures – treat yourself to a bargain just contact Brian – what a generous gesture. Brian can be contacted on 01254 – 812703. All the Club wishes you well Brian Safe flying is No accident. See you all in 2008 Dave will you be first on 1/1/08. Kevin Watson (Jetjockey) Hon sec BDMAC 2007 – 2008 dated 13/12/2007. ----------------------------------------------------------------
