DECEMBER 2008 NEWSLETTER
SLIPSTREAM Newsletter of BDMAC Hello Everyone! Welcome to the latest issue of BDMAC's newsletter. I keep hoping for the weather to be kind but at the time of writing it is 60mph wind and very wet. We have quite a bit to tell you, so I will get straight down to buisness. AGM --- The AGM was attended by over 30 (32) members this year. Thanks to all who came. 2008 Club Commitee was thanked for all their hard work and your new committee was elected for 2009. Chairman C Boardman Vice Chairman T Ward Membership K Griffiths Treasurer T Langford Safety K Low M Briggs D Ginger PRO A Fort Secretary K Watson Simon Ward was Co-opted in 2008 as the web administrator and was thanked for his hard work in maintaining the site. Club subscriptions were agreed with a £2 rise to help offset rising costs and fund events. The Brian Holden memorial trophy was awarded this year to Sebastian Low as the most improved junior member in 2008. Ollie's Photo Prize was awarded to A Fort. Ollie's Broken Prop award went to A Fort. The June rally dates were notified to members and are posted in the web forum pages. It is planned to run similar style of event to last year - possibly the local car club as an additional attraction. Members are reminded that their insurance runs out at the end of this month so if you intend to fly on 01/01/2009 or after then you must pay your subscriptions beforehand. As we approach the festive season. - here is an extract from the BMFA's Handbook - this has obvious insurance implications:- Many factors can affect your day-to-day ability to pilot a model aircraft Careful consideration should be given before flying to ensure that you are not compromising your own safety and welfare or that of those around you. Be aware that you might occasionally be ‘unfit to fly’. Some medications may render you unfit to fly and the effects of alcohol should not be ignored. As a guide, if you are fit to drive a motor vehicle then you are probably fit to fly an R/C aircraft. When at the flying field take good care of yourself. As always, however, the responsibility for the final decision on whether to fly rests with you, the pilot. (Editor Comment stay safe- Do not fly under the influence of alcohol or drugs) It only remains for me to thank everyone and wish you all a Merry Christmas and aeronautical 2009. See you 01/01/09 perhaps? Kevin Watson Hon Sec BDMAC.
